JOE SCHIRRIPAFor <strong>the</strong> last two decades, Schirripa has been a fixture coach<strong>in</strong>g soccer at Miller Field, New Dorp.He started his coach<strong>in</strong>g career <strong>in</strong> 1990 with Elt<strong>in</strong>gville Lu<strong>the</strong>ran School (ELS) Soccer club, and put <strong>in</strong> n<strong>in</strong>eyears mentor<strong>in</strong>g kids and along <strong>the</strong> way became <strong>the</strong> club’s director.He coached <strong>the</strong> Staten Island United Eagles travel team for eight seasons, reach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> State Cup semif<strong>in</strong>als<strong>in</strong> 1998 and 1999, a huge accomplishment.Schirripa became <strong>the</strong> junior varsity coach at St. John Villa <strong>in</strong> 1999 and a year later moved up to varsity andcoached <strong>the</strong> team to w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g seasons through 2005, w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g a league championship and earn<strong>in</strong>g a spot <strong>in</strong><strong>the</strong> Catholic state f<strong>in</strong>als <strong>in</strong> 2004.S<strong>in</strong>ce 2002, Schirripa has been an Executive Board Member of <strong>the</strong> United program and is presently <strong>the</strong> girls’coord<strong>in</strong>ator.Schirripa presently coaches <strong>the</strong> under-15 SI United Fire and has enlisted his daughter Kathyrn to <strong>the</strong>coach<strong>in</strong>g fraternity.Last year, <strong>the</strong> Oakwood resident started a junior varsity team at Moore Catholic High School.© 2011 SILive.com.
