St Francis Magazine Vol 8, No 2 | April 2012 There then follows a report of Chalil Jamal’s departure from Salt. Friday, September 1st. We left for Amman, Mr. ElKarey the priest, his brother Solimon, a horseman, and myself (they meet a bedouin horseman of the Beni Sakhr and have a conversation on the way). In Amman, we found another, one Salwen, a muslim; he lives in one of the caves in Amman. He said that to steal when in need and to kill an enemy when you meet with him, is not sin; but to steal from a friend, or to kill a friend, is sin. I taught him the same prayer that I taught AbdAllah – but we could not convince him that killing an enemy is sin. Left Amman and rode to El Yadoodi. In the night, spoke about the fruits of the Christian religion....our host was a friend of mine but belongs to the Latin Church. The report concludes with an interesting list of the places visited and the scope of the enquiries that Chalil Jamal must have been making.
