St Francis Magazine Vol 8, No 2 | April 2012 and little issues of his life. His confidence in service for His God is at that moment unshakeable, not because of Elijah’s character and resourcefulness, but because of God’s. Elijah had seen God prove Himself faithful consistently through His life and he draws from that experience and walks out in confidence into the most intimidating arena of service imaginable. We each have a path to look back on, a journey replete with faith markers, moments, events, even seasons in our journey where God has unmistakably shown His hand. However, we have all lived long enough to know that life is not always hand in hand with Jesus; sometimes God appears to remain mysteriously silent and detached from our predicament. On such occasions it is imperative that we have faith-­‐markers to look back on to remind us that all is not as it seems, that God still cares, still remains in control and still has unlimited knowledge and power to work in our favor if He chooses to do so. Do you have a journal of faith-­‐markers to look back on when you doubt God’s goodness? Can you recall them at a moment’s notice to give you strength and hope for the future amidst the confusion and doubt of the present? Those that last long in tough places call on such a reservoir of hope. 5. Elijah’s Darkest Moment Shortly after the showdown on Carmel, when God had demonstrated His power like never before in Elijah’s ministry, a wicked women utters a few choice words and Elijah’s life seemingly spirals out of control. 11 This mighty man of God had reached a point where life wasn’t worth living.
