Thispatented tooth profile provides a significant improvement in gear operatingcharacteristics and performance. The new “S” tooth profile significantly increases the region of toothengagement. For the traditional tooth profile 15% of the total numberof teeth are in contact, while for the new profile up to 30% of the teethare in contact. The increased number of teeth in engagement results ina 100% increase in torsional stiffness in the low & mid torque ranges. The new tooth profile also features an enlarged tooth root radius, which results in a higher allowable stress and a corresponding increasein torque capacity. Furthermore, the enlarged region of tooth engagementleads to a more even loading of the Wave Generator bearing, resulting in more than double the life expectancy for the gear.Initial EngagementFull Engagement4
