Chapter 3: Troubleshooting 3-5General Suggestions• Make sure all cables are installed correctly.• Try running Setup as described in the <strong>7453</strong> Workstation User'sGuide.• Verify that your system hardware configuration is set correctly. InSetup, check the values and record them. If an error is evident (forexample, wrong drive specified), make the change in Setup, recordthe change and reboot the system.• If you are running the software from a diskette, use a new copy.• If you are running the software from a hard disk, try running itfrom a diskette. If the software runs correctly from the diskette,there may be a problem with the copy on the hard disk. Reinstallthe software on the hard disk and try again. Make sure all thenecessary files are installed.• If the problems are intermittent, there may be a loose cable, dirt inthe keyboard (if keyboard input is incorrect), a marginal powersupply, or other random component failures.• If you cannot boot up because of a problem with the drive that yoursystem is set to boot up on, turn off the workstation, restart andpress F2. Now set the workstation to boot up on the other drive.• Voltage spikes can occasionally cause the heads of the disk drive tocontact the disk. This can corrupt or destroy data files. If you areexperiencing voltage spikes on the power line, install a surgesuppresser between the power outlet and the system power cord.
