Chapter 3: Troubleshooting 3-11Hard Drive Light Does Not LightIf hard drive light does not light when drive is in use or is tested byPOST, perform the following procedures:1. Ensure power and signal cables for the drive are properly installed.2. Ensure the front panel connector is securely attached to the systemboard headers.3. Check that the drive is properly configured and enabled in Setup.If the drive is working properly, the LED is faulty.4. Check the drive manufacturer's manual for proper configuration.System Halts before Completing POSTThis indicates a fatal system error that requires immediate serviceattention. Note the screen display and write down any error message.Refer to the "Post Failure Troubleshooting Flowchart." Whiletroubleshooting, write notes describing the actions you have taken atthe appropriate point on the flowchart.Problems after a New Hardware Device Is InstalledHardware problems can be caused by faulty connections orconfiguration conflicts, as well as by component failure. In addition,many hardware devices require the installation of software drivers onthe workstation and that the system is restarted before the device isactive.If a new hardware device is not working properly, try these steps:1. Reboot the workstation and check for proper operation.(Workstations often need to be restarted after the hardware orsoftware configuration has been changed.)2. Run the Setup utility; verify that the settings are correct for yoursystem configuration. After changing the settings, restart thesystem.
