4-46 Chapter 4: Hardware Service4-Port PCI Serial BoardThe 4-Port RS-232 Board is a PCI serial board that provides four RS-232ports. The board occupies a PCI slot and requires one unique IRQ andfour 8-byte I/O addresses that are automatically assigned by the PCIBIOS. The board can operate in a Windows 95/98 or Windows NTenvironment. The board uses a 4-port RS-232 cable to connect toperipheral devices.Note: Support for one type of serial port board is provided. The DualPort RS-232 Board, the 4-Port RS-232 Board or the 8-Port RS-232 Boardcannot be in the unit at the same time; they are mutually exclusive.Hardware InstallationFollow these steps to install the 4-Port RS-232 Board:1. Remove power from computer by turning power switch off andunplugging power cord. (Turning off the power switch does notremove all power.)2. Remove top cover.3. Find an open PCI slot and remove screw to take off slot cover.4. Insert the 4-Port R-S232 Board in an open slot. Ensure board's edgeconnector is firmly seated in slot.5. Secure board with screw removed in Step 3.6. Reinstall computer cover.7. Install the 4-port cable to the board.8. Return power to computer.
