The diesel generator alternative uses <strong>the</strong> CAT 3608 IL8 engine. This is a Navy standard, shockqualified generator set that is used in <strong>AOE</strong>-6 and LPD-17. This generator set has excellent fuel consumption. Thegas turbine generator option is <strong>the</strong> DDA 501-K34. This is <strong>the</strong> newer version of <strong>the</strong> DDA 501-K17 with a higherpower output. This generator is Grade A shock qualified and US Navy certified. It has a high power density. TheCAT 3608 engine is heavier and larger than <strong>the</strong> DDA 501-K34, but is more fuel efficient. Characteristics for <strong>the</strong>generator sets engines are listed in Table 14 and Table 15.
