CUVX Design – VT Team 2 Page 54Figure 41. CUVX HI3 Curves of Form4.2.2 Deck HouseThe island on a CVN contains the flight operations center, recovery operations center, pilot house, combatsystems center, communications center, and supports many of the ship’s electronics and sensors. It is also very highfor optimal forward visibility. One large structure is not possible in CUVX because of limited recovery deck areaand the low RCS requirement. Trade-offs must be made between forward visibility, recovery deck visibility, usablearea on recovery deck, and low RCS. This requires CUVX to have separate facilities for each of three groups ofoperations, located to satisfy their own needs and those of the total ship.Figure 42.
