Aigul Absametova. “Developing Air Transport Potentialof the EurAsEC Countries”Advanced Economic Cooperationin Sectors and IndustriesLufthansa’s main transit hub in EurAsEC is Domodedovo. Its aircraft also maketransit stops at Yemelyanovo.Over the last few years, cargo transited through Sheremetyevo by Chinese aircarriers Air China, China Southern Airlines and China Eastern Airlines, andthrough Domodedovo by Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific, has been on the rise.Air China Cargo also uses Tolmachevo as a transit airport. Over 30 foreigncompanies are executing cargo deliveries between Europe and Asia Pacific viaEurAsEC and their number continues to grow. The promising areas for the development of international traffic across Eurasiainclude transit by new types of aircraft such as the Airbus-380 and, in the longerterm, the Boeing-747-800. However, EurAsEC’s airports must undergo furtherreconstruction so that they can handle such types of aircraft and serve as transitor backup aerodromes.EurAsEC’s ATM bodies service a total airspace of 30.9 million km 2 (see Figure10.9). All its member states belong to the Eastern Part of the ICAO EuropeanRegion and, as members of the ICAO, they must endeavour to implement itsnational ATM harmonisation strategy.100000275521000010001001012800208200143Belarus Kazakhstan Kyrgyzstan Russia TajikistanFigure 10.9.Airspace servicedby EurAsEC’s ATMbodies (thousandskm 2 )Source: InternationalAviation CommitteeEurAsEC airspace includes international and domestic routes.
