PoSTGraDuaTe DiPlomaS<br />

<strong>The</strong> course <strong>of</strong> study for <strong>the</strong> <strong>postgraduate</strong> diploma is assessed by written papers, examination, and in<br />

some cases may include supervised research work culminating in <strong>the</strong> submission <strong>of</strong> a project report.<br />

<strong>The</strong> PG Diploma Project Reports should not exceed 100 pages including Appendices.<br />

Postgraduate Diplomas are <strong>of</strong>fered in:<br />

Coastal Zone Processes<br />

<strong>The</strong> objective <strong>of</strong> this programme is to equip <strong>the</strong> graduate with <strong>the</strong> necessary knowledge <strong>of</strong> coastal<br />

processes and techniques required for coastal zone management and monitoring <strong>of</strong> coastal zone plans<br />

and projects. Admission to this programme requires that applicants have a first degree from an approved<br />

university in <strong>the</strong> Natural Sciences, Planning, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Surveying,<br />

Land Information and at least one year <strong>of</strong> related <strong>postgraduate</strong> experience or an accredited BTech or<br />

HND/Associate degree in Civil Engineering plus five (5) years related <strong>postgraduate</strong> experience.<br />

Construction engineering and management<br />

Construction management<br />

<strong>The</strong> primary objective <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> programme is to improve <strong>the</strong> decision-making capabilities <strong>of</strong> engineers and<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r construction pr<strong>of</strong>essionals in <strong>the</strong> region, with a view to improving <strong>the</strong> efficiency and effectiveness<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> whole construction process. <strong>The</strong> programme should also equip engineers and construction<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essionals to apply modern knowledge effectively in <strong>the</strong> real, competitive world <strong>of</strong> industry. <strong>The</strong><br />

programme is also directed towards fostering <strong>the</strong> advancement <strong>of</strong> knowledge through <strong>the</strong> promotion<br />

<strong>of</strong> research into <strong>the</strong> problems and opportunities that face <strong>the</strong> construction sector.<br />

Entry into this programme requires that candidates have at least a first degree or equivalent in Civil,<br />

<strong>St</strong>ructural, Construction, Building or Architectural Engineering, a first degree or equivalent qualification<br />

in Architecture or Quantity Surveying, or an equivalent qualification acceptable to <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

<strong>The</strong> candidate should also have at least one year <strong>of</strong> relevant practical experience.<br />
