us to identify sub graphs as described
above. Entities are not restricted to belong
to one community only, but they
are allowed membership of more than
one community. This notion of overlapping
comes much closer to real life networks
than strictly disjunctive partitioning
methods.
We are also interested in semantic information
retrieval algorithms. Our goal
is to create approaches that do not rely
on mere pattern matching but reach out
to incorporate the notion of semantics
into queries. This way, search strings do
not have to be identical with the contents
of a document but only need to be
situated in the same semantic area. Currently,
we are exploring opportunities to
improve the performance and try to facilitate
the use of different analytical tools
like homogeneity analysis.
Another project is to work out “ground
rules of proper fraud detection”. This entails
determining appropriate digit distributions
to describe the “normal” situation,
finding transformations that effect
The project is joint work with S. Dlugosz
