About the Institution
A pioneer in French elite Grandes
Ecoles system, BEM-Bordeaux Management
School, founded in 1874, provides
a high value-added education in business
administration and management.
Twenty thousand companies and professional
organizations work regularly
with BEM, providing active support for
its educational programs and research.
The “Operations Management and
IS” department is valued for its competency
in purchasing, logistics, supply
chain and information systems management.
The team members are highly
recognized for expertise in the area of
Information and Decision Science, in
Knowl-edge Management and Organizational
Learning research fields.
Research Topics
The areas of research pursued by the
team members are wide-ranging: developing
business models of electronic
marketplaces and measurement of
electronic service quality, a systemic
analysis of organizational design and
the performance of inventory control
systems, formal modelling for the different
organisational learning mechanisms,
and causal mapping applications
in managerial decision-making.
The multi-disciplinary approach
serves as a powerful factor of innovation
and creativity, not only in research
studies but also in teaching: every
team member gains from the dynamic
exchange of ideas at the monthly research
seminars.
Current Research
Several research projects are conducted
by the team members in close
collaboration with industrial partners.
PRODIGE project ( ANR)
The project ‘PRODIGE’ is funded by
the French National Agency of Research
and conducted by BEM Bordeaux Man-
agement School in collaboration with
other partners of the Campus Supply
Chain Research Group. The project
deals with the “real time” organization
and optimization of goods transportation
within the supply chain using the
RFID (Radio Frequency Identification)
technology.
The aim of the project is to consider
the RFID technology as a way to make
the transported products
“intelligent” by giving
them the means to communicate
real-time information,
which is useful
for the organization and
the control of flow of
transported goods (i.e.,
reducing empty miles,
route optimization, optimization
of freight volumes,
etc.).
The project was started
in November of 2009 and has
been ongoing for a period of 3 years
(2.7 M€.)
ORISCO project (CIGREF)
This new seven-month project ORganisational
and IS COnfigurations for
exploration and exploitation trade-off,
launched together with a multinational
company – Group Legrand – a longterm
BEM partner, is financed by the
CIGREF foundation (15 Ke).
The project focuses on the use of information
systems by structurally ambidextrous
firms to investigate explorative
and exploitative knowledge flows
throughout the organization both at
the organisational level and at the individual
level.
The ambitious goals of the study are
the following: to extract predominant
factors from this case study (Legrand
in France, Russia, and India) and to
develop a formal model and emergent
scenarios. Identification of emerging
trends and development of recommendations
for the geographically dispersed
companies will help accomplish
a better integration of organizational
functioning in subsidiaries.
