In May of this year, our PhD student
Edvinas Pakalnickas has defended his
thesis titled “Information Systems Development
Method Based on Component
System Model”.
Two more dissertations are scheduled
for defense this winter:
Laurikaitis, Aurimas: Extracting Conceptual
Data Specifications from Legacy
Information Systems.

Planned Activities
While proceeding with the already
mentioned long-term projects that
have started in 2010, we are planning
to initiate a number of new projects.
Most notable is “Methodological and
Technological Issues of Semantics-
Driven Information Systems Development”
that should be sponsored by
the Research Council of Lithuania.
The Department is continuing the
development of the Information Systems
Engineering bachelor study programme.
In 2011, we will launch two
specializations that will introduce a
host of brand new modules that are
under development at the Department.
At the same time, the Department is
organizing the annual International
Conference on Information and Software
Technologies that will take place
in Kaunas in April of next year (please
visit isd.ktu.lt/IT2011 for more information
and the CFP). We are also
planning to stage the Industrial Tutorials
for IT professionals that were a
great success in 2010.
In 2011 we should also see the start
of the construction of the new Information
Technology Research Center
(part of the Integrated Valley “Santaka”,
set to open in 2012). This will
intensify our preparations for the upcoming
increase of the department’s
technological and human R&D resources.
