Copenhagen Business School – Department of Informatics 36 About the Institution Research at the Department of Informatics focuses on the development, management and use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in society, institutions and businesses. The department’s research is multidisciplinary, and the staff’s proficient background includes computer science, organizational science, economics, psychology and engineering. Teaching at the department concentrates on the BSc and MSc programs in IT and Business Economics and the BA in Information Management. Research Topics The department’s research concentrates on the following themes: Development of Information Systems (IS) and ICTs: Information systems development practices and management, development methodologies, usability of information systems, distributed information systems, and database systems. Management of ICT-enabled processes: Designing and examining ICT-enabled business models and management innovation in areas such as outsourcing, software venturing and entrepreneurship, knowledge-based systems, and open source systems. Current Research Open Innovation In the project “Open Innovation in the IT industry” we study a new business model in the IT industry,that customizes standard software as the foundation for a software company’s earnings. Based on a case study of a small Danish company that has specialised in customizing specific products from a global IT provider, we investigate how the original software producer’s approach to open innovation has a vital impact on the customizing company’s business and work practices (Professor Karlheinz Kautz). Social media in healthcare This project extends previous research on the use of technology in health care by focusing on how nurses can act as mediators to facilitate and support patients’ adoption and use of social media. itGrows The objective of the itGrows project is to develop a greenhouse climate-management system that integrates state-of-the art hardware and software with the newest knowledge in greenhouse production and human-machine interaction. The project is funded by the Danish National Advanced Technology Foundation and includes both industrial and university partners. At INF, the main task will be to develop new techniques for user interface development in process control systems and to design the system’s user interface (Associate professors Torkil Clemmensen and Rasmus U. Pedersen). Co-creation lab for Innovation (CCLFI) The central idea of CCLFI is to consider ICT as the core enabler of innovation and then provide a bridge between innovation theories, information system theories of innovation processes, and management theories about innovation. ICT would then link these theories to the real world of practice, including enabling experiments in partnership with the industry, academia and government to create solutions to disruptive phenomenas brought about by the introduction of information and communication technology. We conceptualise co-creation as a platform, independentknowledge process driven by the need to develop products and services and reengineer low-cost products for global markets, thus creating new opportunities and future markets (PhD Sudhanshu Rai and Professor Mogens K.
