Pension is normally granted to anofficer when he retires from the service, or inother circumstances as provided under thepensions legislation. An officer's pension iscalculated on the basis of his salary, length ofservice and pension factor under therespective pension schemes according to theprescribed formulae in the pensionslegislation. An officer may choose tocommute a certain percentage of his pensioninto a lump sum pension gratuity.
