It is the responsibility<strong>of</strong> the student to ensure that he/she takes all required courses inthe term in which they are <strong>of</strong>fered. Since the upper-division courses formajors (see Upper Division, above) require Economics 3, 4; Accounting1, 2; BusAd 40, Math 3 or 27 (or the sequence <strong>of</strong> Math 13 –14),students are expected to complete these lower-division courses in theirfreshman and sophomore years. Waiver <strong>of</strong> prerequisites or class standingrequires the approval <strong>of</strong> the department chair. Students may not transferfor credit in the major more than two upper-division courses.It is expected that majors will complete at least BusAd 120, 123, and124 prior to their senior year. It is recommended that majors willcomplete Bus Ad 181 or 182 prior to their senior year.Majors must take BusAd 140 in the spring term <strong>of</strong> their senior year.BusAd 140 is not <strong>of</strong>fered in the fall term. All lower-division requirements,plus BusAd 120, BusAd 123, BusAd 124, BusAd 131, BusAd 132, andBusAd 181 (or 182) must be completed prior to enrolling in BusAd 140.ConcentrationsThe marketing concentration, international concentration, and the honorsconcentration in financial services have certain special requirements.(See descriptions <strong>of</strong> these programs on the pages that follow.)Marketing ConcentrationA central purpose <strong>of</strong> the marketing concentration is to enable undergraduatestudents to acquire a thorough knowledge and understanding<strong>of</strong> the broad context in which marketing decisions should be made.Thus, in addition to taking specific marketing courses and other businessrelatedcourses, the curriculum includes an interdisciplinary component,intended to familiarize students with external macro-environmentalconditions and other factors that must be taken into account in orderto formulate sound strategic marketing plans.A minimum major grade point average <strong>of</strong> 2.5 in a business administrationprogram will be required for admission to the concentration. It will benecessary to maintain a major GPA <strong>of</strong> at least 2.8 in order to graduatein the concentration.Lower DivisionSame requirements as business administration major, but should becompleted by the end <strong>of</strong> the sophomore year.68
