It locates the techno-cultural terrainin which third wave feminist instructors find themselves and considers how informationand communication technologies (ICT) both enhance and delimitthird wave feminist teaching practice. This chapter additionally questions howthird wave feminists can teach gender utilizing ICTs in ways that challengerather than privilege students’ roles as consuming subjects, and exploresgenerational distinctions between third and second wave feminists’ engagementand pedagogical treatment of technology. Finally, this chapter proffers experientialreflections, open-ended questions, and working suggestions for howthird wave feminists might bring innovative and creative pedagogic practicesinto the instructive fold of teaching gender.IntroductionAgainst the backdrop of the institutionalization of Women’s and GenderStudies departments in recent years, third wave feminists have, like their secondwave mentors grappled with translating the interdisciplinary leanings of thefield into a sustained and cross-institutionally intelligible pedagogic practice. 1Here third wave feminists, many of whom have been trained in post-graduateWomen’s and Gender Studies programs, have entered the ranks of the academyas graduate-level instructors and junior level faculty and have begun totake stock of the kinds of analytic and technological tools that are requiredto craft a decidedly third wave pedagogic practice.
