These aims are achieved throughthe following modules:Approaches to the Study ofWell-being (15 credits) offersan introduction to the studyof well-being from a variety ofperspectives including: Evolutionand development; physiologyand neuroscience; philosophyand psychologyResearch Methods and DataAnalysis for Psychologists(30 credits) equips you withthe quantitative and qualitativeresearch skills necessary toundertake research at msc levelWell-being Through theLifespan (15 credits) extendsthe study of psychologicalperspectives on well-being andexplores influences on, andpotential threats to psychologicalwell-being at key stagesthroughout the lifespanWell-being in Cultural, Socialand Economic Contexts(15 credits) focuses on wellbeingwithin a broader frameworkas opposed to at an individuallevel. You will explore thecultural context of well-being inaddition to social and economicconsiderationsApproaches to PsychologicalProblems (30 credits) considersdecreased well-being asmanifested in psychologicalproblems, including anxietydisorders, depressive illness andsubstance abuseLifestyle, Wellness and Wellbeing(15 credits) relates tocurrent initiatives concerned withthe maintenance of ‘wellness andwell-being’, exploring the effectsof lifestyle factors (e.g. smoking,drinking alcohol, drug-use)on physical and psychologicalaspects of well-beingResearch Dissertation (60credits) allows you to designand conduct an original researchstudy on a topic of your choice,and applying qualitative and/orquantitative methods of analysisYou may choose to take one oftwo combinations of modules asa Postgraduate Certificate or allmodules except the dissertationas a Postgraduate Diploma.Teaching and AsseSSmentAll teaching is delivered within twodedicated laboratory/taught mastersrooms. Teaching facilities includededicated laboratory and practicalwork areas, an observation suite anda vision research laboratory. You willalso enjoy excellent IT and computingfacilities within both the faculty andthe library, and have access to anumber of statistical and softwarepackages including SPss, AdobeAudition and Superlab.The course uses a wide variety ofteaching and learning methods andassessment is based exclusivelyon coursework. The latter is varied,and includes formal essays, theproduction of research reports, realtimeand web-based presentationsand problem solving tasks, a literaturereview, and a reflective portfolio.The dissertation provides you withan experience of the researchprocess from its inceptionto completion.International students come to studyin the UK because the quality of ourteaching is among the best in theworld, offering a varied selectionof teaching methods to suit alllearning requirements.ExpertiseThe course is taught by experiencedpsychologists, based at De MontfortUniversity, with occasional contributionsfrom practitioners and academicsworking within a variety of well-beingrelated contexts.The team has expertise in thespecific domains of well-beingembedded within the course; forexample, developmental psychology,occupational psychology, healthpsychology, clinical psychology andcognitive/biological psychology.A number of the team are currentlyworking or publishing in areasthat relate to well-being andmental health, or are supervisingPhD research in this area.For example, articles authored byteam members have been publishedin a diverse range of peer-reviewedjournals including: Social Scienceand Medicine, Mental HealthReview, The International Journalof Human Resource Developmentand Management, The Journalof Adolescence, The Journal ofExperimental Child Psychology,The Journal of ExperimentalPsychology, The Journal of Neurology,Neurosurgery and Psychiatry ChildDevelopment, Health EducationResearch: Theory and Practice, andThe Journal of Health Psychology.Graduate CareersCompletion of the course will leadto a number of career opportunitiesall over the world including research,teaching and those within the caringprofessions; also to facilitate careerprogression.
