Key areas of specialism includecomputing in a business environment, artificial intelligence androbotics, and computer games programming.The Cyber Security Centre (CSC, dmu.ac.uk/CSC) is amultidisciplinary group of academics and industry expertswho focus on a wide variety of cyber security and digitalforensics issues. The Centre’s mission is to provide the fullbenefits to all of a safe, secure and resilient cyberspace.The work of the CSC combines a thorough understandingof the real world digital environment with deep insightsinto its underlying foundations. From the subtle, technicalaspects of network security and live forensics through tothe intricate interplay between economics, psychology,policies and practice, the CSC combines expertise acrossdisciplines to produce transformational solutions tohard problems.Imaging and Displays (idrG, dmu.ac.uk/IDRG) is agroup of multidisciplinary academics who have earnedan international reputation for excellence in the design,development and evaluation of next-generation 3Ddisplays and holography for consumer and industrialuse. The group’s world first projects regularly involvecollaboration with partners worldwide to creatively engagethe science of holograms and 3D imaging technology asa practical tool within society in uses such as security, 3Dtelevision and medical applications.The Software Technology Research Laboratory(STRL, dmu.ac.uk/STRL) is a world leading groupwhose members are actively engaged in research anddevelopment in all aspects of software engineering. Thebreadth and depth of their research provides a fertile andlively environment for postgraduate study. Their activeresearch atmosphere means that there are interestingopportunities for project work and that graduates aresupervised by world experts in many fields.The Earth and Planetary Remote Sensing Laboratory(Eaprs, dmu.ac.uk/EAPRS) is an interdisciplinaryresearch centre. The Eaprs laboratory has forged, andmaintains, a substantial world lead in the analysis andinterpretation of remote sensing data, with an emphasison radar instruments. In particular radar altimetry whichhas been used by the European Space Agency (ESA).Key to the lab’s continuing success in research andnew applications development is the underpinningtechnical knowledge, vital to understanding both thesatellite instrument engineering and the subsequent dataprocessing.
