Key areas of specialism <strong>in</strong>cludecomput<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> a bus<strong>in</strong>ess environment, artificial <strong>in</strong>telligence androbotics, and computer games programm<strong>in</strong>g.The Cyber Security Centre (CSC, dmu.ac.uk/CSC) is amultidiscipl<strong>in</strong>ary group of academics and <strong>in</strong>dustry expertswho focus on a wide variety of cyber security and digitalforensics issues. The Centre’s mission is to provide <strong>the</strong> fullbenefits to all of a safe, secure and resilient cyberspace.The work of <strong>the</strong> CSC comb<strong>in</strong>es a thorough understand<strong>in</strong>gof <strong>the</strong> real world digital environment with deep <strong>in</strong>sights<strong>in</strong>to its underly<strong>in</strong>g foundations. From <strong>the</strong> subtle, technicalaspects of network security and live forensics through to<strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>tricate <strong>in</strong>terplay between economics, psychology,policies and practice, <strong>the</strong> CSC comb<strong>in</strong>es expertise acrossdiscipl<strong>in</strong>es to produce transformational solutions tohard problems.Imag<strong>in</strong>g and Displays (idrG, dmu.ac.uk/IDRG) is agroup of multidiscipl<strong>in</strong>ary academics who have earnedan <strong>in</strong>ternational reputation for excellence <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> design,development and evaluation of next-generation 3Ddisplays and holography for consumer and <strong>in</strong>dustrialuse. The group’s world first projects regularly <strong>in</strong>volvecollaboration with partners worldwide to creatively engage<strong>the</strong> science of holograms and 3D imag<strong>in</strong>g technology asa practical tool with<strong>in</strong> society <strong>in</strong> uses such as security, 3Dtelevision and medical applications.The Software Technology Research Laboratory(STRL, dmu.ac.uk/STRL) is a world lead<strong>in</strong>g groupwhose members are actively engaged <strong>in</strong> research anddevelopment <strong>in</strong> all aspects of software eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g. Thebreadth and depth of <strong>the</strong>ir research provides a fertile andlively environment for postgraduate study. Their activeresearch atmosphere means that <strong>the</strong>re are <strong>in</strong>terest<strong>in</strong>gopportunities for project work and that graduates aresupervised by world experts <strong>in</strong> many fields.The Earth and Planetary Remote Sens<strong>in</strong>g Laboratory(Eaprs, dmu.ac.uk/EAPRS) is an <strong>in</strong>terdiscipl<strong>in</strong>aryresearch centre. The Eaprs laboratory has forged, andma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>s, a substantial world lead <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> analysis and<strong>in</strong>terpretation of remote sens<strong>in</strong>g data, with an emphasison radar <strong>in</strong>struments. In particular radar altimetry whichhas been used by <strong>the</strong> European Space Agency (ESA).Key to <strong>the</strong> lab’s cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g success <strong>in</strong> research andnew applications development is <strong>the</strong> underp<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>gtechnical knowledge, vital to understand<strong>in</strong>g both <strong>the</strong>satellite <strong>in</strong>strument eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g and <strong>the</strong> subsequent dataprocess<strong>in</strong>g.
