It provides an educationalexperience which builds on thenotion of individualised practicein fine art, extending it to promotea vigorous critical and contextualunderstanding of your practice asa whole.Staff are practising artists, andindividual members of the Fine Artteam have exhibited internationallyand at large regional centres.Develop a professional bodyof work and expertise incontemporary practiceReceive specialistteaching in painting,drawing, sculpture, printmaking,video and photography ormultidisciplinary routesWork in individual studio spaceand a lively and stimulatingenvironment where MA andPhD students work alongsideeach otherCourse modulesThe course is structured around aflexible timetable of studio tutorials,formal group critiques, seminars,presentations and visiting artists’talks. You are challenged onpresentation, installation, curationaland representational issues.You will work in specific MA studiospaces alongside research studentsand are supported by workshops andfacilities for all disciplines, includinglens-based and electronic media.Research modules, in which you aretaught key skills in identifying andapplying research skills, supportyour studio practice. You will developsignificant professional practice skillsthroughout the course.The MA culminates in a finalgraduating show in September.Teaching and asseSSMentThe course consists of taughtmodules and continuously assessedstudio work. In the final term (fulltime)or second year (part-time), youcomplete a major piece of writing inparallel to your final exhibition that isopen to the public.ExpertiseThe staff team all have a high levelof expertise in specialist disciplineswith the ‘core’ team contributing tothe key teaching events and rigorousassessment processes.Graduate careersSome graduates practiceprofessionally as artists, othersundertake research or teach. Someapply their skills and learning withina wider context, for example arttherapy, curation, arts administration,media and public relations, publishingand arts-related residencies.The MA is also suitable as afoundation course for a PhDresearch application.
