This module isimportant for your professionaldevelopment and is also a centralpreparation for the final project/dissertation. Furthermore, such anintroduction to research paves theway for a research degree andthereby contributes to yourcontinued employability.Management of InformationSystems enables you to setcomputing developments in abroader social, economic andbusiness context. It explainsthe basic concepts and ways oforganising work in a businessenvironment and relating this toinformation systems and to is/ITprojects. This module equips youwith the skills needed forthe effective management ofIS/IT projects.E-Commerce Systems developsa conceptual understanding ofthe management and supportof e-commerce systems withinan organisation. This moduleprovides a critical awareness ofstrategy issues, the provision ofinformation and the support ofsuch systems and examines theprocess of e-commerce systemsdevelopment. There is a detailedstudy of the strategy process, andthe benefits of e-commerce areexplored with reference tocurrent research.Human Factors in SystemsDesign introduces and exploresthe human factors and issuesthat need to be considered whendesigning interactive systems.You will develop skills enablingyou to design effective andusable interactive systems. Youwill also learn how to evaluate theusability and appropriateness ofcompeting designs.Third semester(June to September)During the final semester you willwork on your project/dissertation,chosen by you and agreed with yourproject supervisor. Part-time studentsnormally choose to work on theirproject over an entire academic year.Optional placementWe offer a great opportunity to boostyour career prospects through anoptional one year placement as partof your postgraduate studies. Wehave a dedicated Placements Unitto help you obtain this. Once on yourplacement, you will be supported byyour Visiting Tutor to ensure that yougain your maximum benefit from theexperience. Placements begin afterthe taught component of the coursehas been completed – usually aroundJune – and lasts for one year. Whenyou return from your work placementyou will begin your dissertation.Teaching and asseSSMentTeaching will include formallectures, tutorials and labs. Youwill also be expected to undertakeindependent study and researchto support your assignments anddissertation.
