This module isimportant for your professionaldevelopment and is also a centralpreparation for <strong>the</strong> f<strong>in</strong>al project/dissertation. Fur<strong>the</strong>rmore, such an<strong>in</strong>troduction to research paves <strong>the</strong>way for a research degree and<strong>the</strong>reby contributes to yourcont<strong>in</strong>ued employability.Management of InformationSystems enables you to setcomput<strong>in</strong>g developments <strong>in</strong> abroader social, economic andbus<strong>in</strong>ess context. It expla<strong>in</strong>s<strong>the</strong> basic concepts and ways oforganis<strong>in</strong>g work <strong>in</strong> a bus<strong>in</strong>essenvironment and relat<strong>in</strong>g this to<strong>in</strong>formation systems and to is/ITprojects. This module equips youwith <strong>the</strong> skills needed for<strong>the</strong> effective management ofIS/IT projects.E-Commerce Systems developsa conceptual understand<strong>in</strong>g of<strong>the</strong> management and supportof e-commerce systems with<strong>in</strong>an organisation. This moduleprovides a critical awareness ofstrategy issues, <strong>the</strong> provision of<strong>in</strong>formation and <strong>the</strong> support ofsuch systems and exam<strong>in</strong>es <strong>the</strong>process of e-commerce systemsdevelopment. There is a detailedstudy of <strong>the</strong> strategy process, and<strong>the</strong> benefits of e-commerce areexplored with reference tocurrent research.Human Factors <strong>in</strong> SystemsDesign <strong>in</strong>troduces and explores<strong>the</strong> human factors and issuesthat need to be considered whendesign<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>teractive systems.You will develop skills enabl<strong>in</strong>gyou to design effective andusable <strong>in</strong>teractive systems. Youwill also learn how to evaluate <strong>the</strong>usability and appropriateness ofcompet<strong>in</strong>g designs.Third semester(June to September)Dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> f<strong>in</strong>al semester you willwork on your project/dissertation,chosen by you and agreed with yourproject supervisor. Part-time studentsnormally choose to work on <strong>the</strong>irproject over an entire academic year.Optional placementWe offer a great opportunity to boostyour career prospects through anoptional one year placement as partof your postgraduate studies. Wehave a dedicated Placements Unitto help you obta<strong>in</strong> this. Once on yourplacement, you will be supported byyour Visit<strong>in</strong>g Tutor to ensure that youga<strong>in</strong> your maximum benefit from <strong>the</strong>experience. Placements beg<strong>in</strong> after<strong>the</strong> taught component of <strong>the</strong> coursehas been completed – usually aroundJune – and lasts for one year. Whenyou return from your work placementyou will beg<strong>in</strong> your dissertation.Teach<strong>in</strong>g and asseSSMentTeach<strong>in</strong>g will <strong>in</strong>clude formallectures, tutorials and labs. Youwill also be expected to undertake<strong>in</strong>dependent study and researchto support your assignments anddissertation.
