Creativity,skills and knowledge are appliedand extended within individuallynegotiated and contextualisedframeworks.The Major Project affords theopportunity for in-depth explorationand expansion of creative conceptsand ideas. The aesthetic, conceptualand technological considerations ofthe designer are presented in 3Dgarment/prototype collection and2D portfolio. A personal illustratedcritical and reflective thesis (5,000words) addresses the underpinningtheoretical and philosophicaldimensions of your Major Project.You will present the work as a finalexhibition. At the end of this module,you will be able to demonstrateself-direction and originality inthe application of knowledge; anability to deal with complex issuessystematically and creatively andan ability to plan and conduct workindependently and in the absence ofcomplete data.Teaching and asseSSMentThe course promotes a philosophyof developing independentlearners. Supported by specialiststaff and visiting lecturers, youare encouraged to negotiate anddirect your own learning. Tuitionbuilds on individual skills andknowledge in order to develop newcapabilities of design investigation,experimentation, analysis andproduction. Assessmentis continuous.ExpertiseTechnical suites include specialistequipment and computerisedmachinery (for example, lockstitch,zig zag, and elastication and bonecasing) for the manufacture ofouter wear and intimate apparel.Specialist bra moulding technologiesare accessible. Also available areindustry standard CAD software;Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.Print, weave, knit, dye and textilestesting are other facilities available.Graduate careersA variety of career opportunitiesare available to graduates. Theseinclude working in design andmanufacturing companies, setting upnew business ventures, or workingas freelance designers.
