The Centre for ComputationalIntelligence (CCI, dmu.ac.uk/CCI) exists to develop fundamentaltheoretical and practical solutionsto real world problems using avariety of computational intelligenceparadigms. The Centre produces highquality, industrially relevant researchinto intelligent systems, providingtheoretically sound solutions toreal-world decision making andpredicting problems. With anestablished international reputation,there are three main areas of focus:bio-health informatics (developingthe state-of-the art, accurate andreliable computer-based tools forcomputational decision making inbiology and healthcare); fuzzy logic(making significant contributions tothe theoretical foundations and realworld applications of uncertaintymodels, including fuzzy sets,rough sets and grey systems); andintelligent mobile robots and creativecomputing (expanding the roboticsportfolio to following substantialinvestment by the University inmobile robots).dmu.ac.uk/technologyTaking an interdisciplinary approach,the Centre for Computing and SocialResponsibility (CCsr, dmu.ac.uk/CCSR) has gained an impressivereputation as a key player in theinternational research network forthe ethical and social implications ofinformation computer technologies(ICT). CCsr is the only researchcentre in the uk specialising inthe ethical and social issues ofcomputing and information systems.In a world where individuals,businesses and governmentsincreasingly depend on informationand communication technologies,this acclaimed research centre islooked to for authoritative advice ontheir social, organisational andethical impacts.The De Montfort UniversityInterdisciplinary Group in IntelligentTransport Systems (diGITS, dmu.ac.uk/DigiTS) is a group ofacademics who focus on a widerange of intelligent transport andtransport related infrastructuresolutions. The group is dedicated toconducting research and developingprogrammes that will progress theintroduction of sustainable urban andregional transport policies acrossthe European Union and beyond.By working in partnership withindustry, transport service providers,government, other research institutesand communities, the group providesanswers to technological, economicand societal questions aroundsustainability and modal change.235
