exhibited <strong>the</strong> same trends but slower PMOL rele<strong>as</strong>e patterns which varied from ~ 5 – 7%.The study <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> onset PMOL rele<strong>as</strong>e is important in order to verify <strong>the</strong> ability <strong>of</strong> bothpolymers to be used <strong>as</strong> m<strong>as</strong>king agents.Fig. 4.7b: Dissolution pr<strong>of</strong>iles <strong>of</strong> PMOL in PMOL/VA64 extrudates (n = 3).4.0 ConclusionsIn this chapter HME w<strong>as</strong> employed <strong>as</strong> a processing <strong>technique</strong> to manufacture t<strong>as</strong>tem<strong>as</strong>ked PMOL <strong>for</strong>mulation by embedding <strong>the</strong> active substance ei<strong>the</strong>r in Eudragit EPO orKollidon VA64 polymer carriers. PMOL w<strong>as</strong> found to be in crystalline or amorphous statedepending on <strong>the</strong> polymer used <strong>for</strong> <strong>extrusion</strong>. The optimized <strong>for</strong>mulations were evaluated interms <strong>of</strong> t<strong>as</strong>te m<strong>as</strong>king efficiency both by in vivo human panellists and an electronic tongue. The extruded <strong>for</strong>mulations <strong>of</strong> VA64 demonstrated better t<strong>as</strong>te m<strong>as</strong>king compared to those <strong>of</strong>EPO while <strong>the</strong> e – tongue w<strong>as</strong> found to be a valuable tool <strong>for</strong> t<strong>as</strong>te m<strong>as</strong>king <strong>as</strong>sessments and<strong>for</strong>mulation development.5.0 References1.
