A thorough mission analysis is crucial to planning. Both the process and the products of missionanalysis help the commander and staff develop and refine their SU and develop effective plans. By havinga thorough understanding the METT-TC factors, the commander and staff are better equipped to developeffective plans to accomplish the mission. The remainder of this section offers IED planning considerationsalong the METT-TC factors.MISSION7-36. The mission statement defines the who, what, when, where, and why of the operation. A thoroughunderstanding of why the unit is conducting an operation provides the focus for planning.
