But inopening our eyes and ears to what he is going through,we can share his suffering by letting it become ours,and we can pray that he finds mercy and grace. Finally,we must let the dying go, trusting, as Henri Nouwenputs it, “that death does not have the last word. We canlook at them…and give them hope; we can hold theirbodies in our arms. And we can trust that mightierarms than ours will receive them and give them thepeace and joy they desire.”1
