Be Not Afraid <strong>The</strong> Childlike spirit<strong>The</strong> service was very simple. Our pastor spoke abouthow Jesus loves all the children of the world, and thenwe prayed that God’s will would be done, and that wewould be ready to accept it.Easter had special meaning for us, thinking ofJesus’ suffering and deepest pain, his godforsakennessand need for help, and then the resurrection and itsunbelievable promise to every believer. Mark John wassurely a believer. He believed like Jesus told us to – likea child.On Easter morning we took him on a long walk in hiswagon, and his mother talked to him about heaven andthe angels and Jesus. She told him he would soon go toheaven, and that he should wait for us, and someday wewould all be together again. He listened and nodded andsometimes said, “Yes.” Later, when the rest of the familyjoined them, he pulled his big sister down to him andwhispered joyfully, “Natalie, soon I’ll get wings!”<strong>The</strong>n Mark John lost his sight in one eye. He criedwhen he realized it. We were in such a tension: Wouldhe be blind before Jesus came to take him?
