12.4 Water Quality of River BaitarniThe water quality ofmainstreamm of Baitarnii is observedat 5 locations and tributarystream kusei at one location. Thewater quality of River Baitarni is meeting the waterquality criteria with respect to pH and DO. BOD variesfrom 0.3- 3.2 mg/l and thehigh value of BODis observed at Jajpur (3.2 mg/l) in Orissa.Conductivity isobservedin the rangeof 83- 32540 µmhos/cm. The higher values ofconductivity areobservedat Dhamraa (32540 µmhos/cm) and Chandbali (15740 µmhos/cm) due toestuarinee region of the river.The Faecal Coliform (FC) count ranges from 140 to24000 MPN/100mlwhereas the Total Coliform (TC)count ranges from 350 to54000 MPN/100ml.The higher value of TC& FC is observed at Chandbali (54000& 170000 MPN/100ml), Jajpur ( 54000 & 24000 MPN/100ml), Anandpur (28000 &14000 MPN/100ml)and Dhamra (28000 & 17000 MPN/100ml). The water qualityof River Baitarni and its tributary stream Kusei with respect to Temperature, pH,DO, Conductivity, BOD, Nitrate+Nitrite, Total Coliform(TC) and Faecal Coliform(FC) is given in Annexure-I Table 12.2.The water quality status of River Baitarniwith respect to BOD, DO, Total Coliform, Faecal Coliform andConductivity isgiven in figure 12.3.Figure 12.3: Water Quality of River BaitarniD.O.
