The rivers identified as polluted in variouscategories is based on consistently observed higher pollution level in contrast to the waterquality criteria. The strengthening of monitoring network has augmented the coverage ofrivers not covered in the network previously. It is worthwhile to define a river as pollutedif observed consistant exceedences are verified and validated temporally for aconsiderable period.VIII
COMPARATIVE ASSESSMENT <strong>OF</strong> B.O.D. LEVELS <strong>IN</strong> LAKES/PONDS/TANKS• The comparative assessment of lakes, tanks & ponds exceeding BOD levels arecompared with the observations of 2010. The BOD concentration level has increasingtrend in 61 lakes, tanks & ponds and decreasing trend in 44 lakes, tanks & ponds however4 lakes & ponds have seen no change in BOD level (Table – II).Table-II: Comparative Assessment of BOD levels in Lakes, Tanks & PondsB.O.D.
