But with the shifting fortunes of the <strong>Coptic</strong><strong>Church</strong>, <strong>St</strong>. Macarius slowly declined through time until, by the1960s, it nearly dissolved. However, in a dramatic moment associatedwith Holy Week services, the monastery was rescued by an influxof new young monks.
