The preceding table illustrates a very important property <strong>of</strong> logarithms. Note<br />

that when a series <strong>of</strong> numbers increases by a constant factor, for example,<br />

the series 20, 40, 80, 160 or the series 20, 200, 2,000, 20,000, the logarithms<br />

have a constant difference, in these cases 0.30 and 1.00, respectively. In<br />

other words, a constant increase in the logarithm <strong>of</strong> a number means a<br />

constant percentage increase in the number itself.<br />
