7Chapter 7.Data migrationThis chapter introduces the <strong>XIV</strong> <strong>Storage</strong> <strong>System</strong> embedded data migration function, which isused to migrate data from a non-<strong>XIV</strong> storage system to the <strong>XIV</strong> <strong>Storage</strong> <strong>System</strong>. The <strong>XIV</strong>data migration function is included in the base <strong>XIV</strong> software <strong>and</strong> is very easy to deploy. Thischapter includes usage examples <strong>and</strong> troubleshooting information.At a very high level, the steps to migrate to <strong>XIV</strong> using the <strong>XIV</strong> Data <strong>Migration</strong> function are:1. Establish connectivity between source device <strong>and</strong> <strong>XIV</strong>. The source storage device musthave Fibre Channel connectivity with the <strong>XIV</strong>.2. Collect configuration. Detail the configuration of the LUNs to be migrated.3. Perform data migration:– Stop/unconfigure all I/O from source-original LUNs.– Start data migration in <strong>XIV</strong>.– Activate new LUNs through <strong>XIV</strong>.– Start all I/O on new <strong>XIV</strong> LUNs.Note that all images of the <strong>XIV</strong> GUI shown in this chapter used Version 2.4.2 of the <strong>XIV</strong> GUI.If you are still using an earlier version, certain panels may look slightly different.© <strong>Copy</strong>right <strong>IBM</strong> Corp. 2010.
