Table 7-1 Physical site setupTable 7-1 shows the site setup checklist.TaskNumberCompletedWhere toperformTask1 Site Install XIV.2 Site Run fiber cables from SAN switches to XIV for host connectionsand migration connections.3 Non-XIV storage Select host ports on the non-XIV storage to be used for migrationtraffic. These ports do not have to be dedicated ports. Run newcables if necessary.4 Fabric switches Create switch aliases for each XIV Fibre Channel port and anynew non-XIV ports added to the fabric.5 Fabric switches Define SAN zones to connect hosts to XIV (but do not activate thezones). You can do this by cloning the existing zones from host tonon-XIV disk and swapping non-XIV aliases for new XIV aliases.6 Fabric switches Define and activate SAN zones to connect non-XIV storage to XIVinitiator ports (unless direct connected).7 Non-XIV storage If necessary, create a small LUN to be used as LUN0 to allocateto the XIV.8 Non-XIV storage Define the XIV on the non-XIV storage device, mapping LUN0 totest the link.9 XIV Define non-XIV storage to the XIV as a migration target and addports. Confirm that links are green and working.10 XIV Change the max_initialization_rate depending on the non-XIVdisk. You may want to start at a smaller value and increase it if noissues are seen.11 XIV Define all the host servers to the XIV (cluster first if using clusteredhosts). Use a host listing from the non-XIV disk to get the WWPNsfor each host.12 XIV Create storage pools as required. Ensure that there is enoughpool space for all the non-XIV disk LUNs being migrated.Once the site setup is complete, the host migrations can begin. Table 7-2 shows the hostmigration check list. Repeat this check list for every host. Task numbers that are colored redmust be performed with the host application offline.Table 7-2 Host Migration to XIV task listTasknumberCompleted?Where toperformTask1 Host From the host, determine the volumes to be migrated and their relevant LUNIDs and hardware serial numbers or identifiers.2 Host If the host is remote from your location, confirm that you can power the hostback on after shutting it down (using tools such as an RSA card orBladeCenter® manager).3 Non-XIVStorageGet the LUN IDs of the LUNs to be migrated from non-XIV storage device.Convert from hex to decimal if necessary.Chapter 7.
