These papers concern local issues: researchingoral literature in Swaziland and empowering rural youth.This research addresses two priority areas of the Faculty’sThemes for Research, Motivations and Priority Areas.International JournalsSeven research papers have been published in internationaljournals by staff members of the Faculty of Humanities.These papers concern local issues: researching oral literaturein Swaziland and empowering rural youth. This researchaddresses four priority areas of the Faculty’s Themes forResearch, Motivations and Priority Areas.Book ChaptersSeven book chapters have been published by staff membersof the Faculty of Humanities. Five of these chaptersconcern African history and biography. The other twoconcern African and Swazi poetry. This research addressestwo priority areas of the Faculty’s Themes for Research,Motivations and Priority Areas.WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARSNational workshops and/or SeminarsStaff members in the Faculty of Humanities presented papersat eight national workshops/seminars. The topics of thesepapers range from the South African novel and the teachingof language skills in primary schools, to social media andother forms of mass communication, as well as the gatheringof evidence for human rights violations. In addition, theDean gave a presentation to the Swaziland National Councilof Arts and Culture on the tertiary view of the teaching of thearts in primary and secondary schools. These presentationsaddress six priority areas of the Faculty’s Themes forResearch, Motivations and Priority Areas.International workshops and/or seminarsStaff members in the Faculty of Humanities presentedpapers at seventeen international conferences/workshops/seminars. The topics of these papers range from literacyand pedagogy, through Swazi history and linguistics, totraditional and contemporary literature, as well as theBiblical context of HIV/AIDS and communication andthe media. The Dean addressed the issue of the role ofthe Humanities in higher education in two presentations,one a keynote address at a conference at the Universityof Botswana and the 2 nd at the 13 th General Assembly ofCODESRIA in Morocco. All of these presentations addresssix priority areas of the Faculty’s Themes for Research,Motivations and Priority Areas.AWARDS, REGOGNITIONS & HONOURSDr. E.
