Mkatshwa - DirectorVISIONLeadership through excellence in teachingand learningMISSIONThe Centre seeks to promote qualityassurance and excellence in teaching andstudent learning at UNISWA.OBJECTIVESOrganize in-service activities on basicteaching skills for academic staff;Assist staff in the development ofteaching and learning materials;Develop staff skills in assessment andevaluation of students;Provide guidance on methods ofevaluation for academic staff;Administer students’ assessment ofstaff performance and give feedback to staff;Organise in-service activities for the administrativestaff of the University; andOrganise management training for Deans, Heads ofDepartments, Tutors and Assistant TutorsEXECUTIVE SUMMARYThe academic year 2011/12 has been a very busy one forthe Academic Development Centre. This is because of theintroduction of the MESA programme on Mainstreamingof Environment and Sustainability in Africa (MESA) whichhas necessitated the organisation of workshops for differentsections of UNISWA and affiliated institutions. In the yearunder review, a total of 12 workshops and seminars were held.MESA Workshop participantsThese seminars were aimed at achieving the followingobjectives:Building capacity among MIC members in Swazilandand Mozambique;Orienting new members of staff on the expectations ofthe University;Capacitate participants with skills to conduct onlineteaching and learning using the Web 2.0.; andIncreasing the knowledge base about Environment andSustainable Development (ESD) within both UNISWAand affiliated institutions.67REPORT OF THE VICE-CHANCELLOR
