Dlamini- DirectorVISIONThe Vision of the Institute of Post-Graduate Studies is to bea centre of excellence in post graduate training.MISSIONThe mission of the Institute of Post-Graduate Studiesis to strive for and maintain academic excellence anddevelopment through teaching, research and communityservice in all the disciplines offered at post-graduate level,and to retain its relevance in responding to human resourcesdevelopment needs in the Kingdom of Swaziland, the regionof Southern Africa and the international community.OBJECTIVESThe objectives of the Institute of Post-Graduate Studies areto:Promote Post Graduate Programmes that cater forlocal, regional and international needs at master’s anddoctorate levels;Address the human resource challenges of the countryas they arise;Foster effective communication between the Institute ofPost-Graduate Studies and Departments;Administer and coordinate post graduate studies in theUniversity; andPromote quality post-graduate training.EXECUTIVE SUMMARYThe Institute of Post-Graduate Studies achievements duringthe 2011/2012 academic year were modest. An M.Sc. inAnimal Science has been approved by the University Senateto begin in the academic year 2012/2013. A doctoral degree(PhD) in Agricultural Education was introduced, duringthe 2011/2012 academic year. Enrolment at the Instituteof Post Graduate Studies stands at 208 for the master’sdegree programmes and the one PhD programme duringthe current academic year. Five of the total enrolmentare PhD students. About 36 master’s degree students areexpected to graduate during the current academic year.Financial resources continue to hamper the operations ofthe Institute of Post-Graduate Studies.ACTIVITIES OF THE INSTITUTE OF POST GRADUATESTUDIES FOR THE YEAR UNDER REVIEWINTRODUCTION OF CREDIT SYSTEM USINGGRADE POINT AVERAGE (GPA)The Institute of Post-Graduate Studies introduced theGrade Point Average (Credit System) during the 2010/2011academic year which is working very well. Also, theInstitute has introduced semester to semester progression.REVIEWING OF ACADEMIC GENERAL REGULA-TIONS FOR POST-GRADUATE, MASTER’S DEGREES,AND FOR PHD DEGREE PROGRAMMESThe Institute of Post Graduate Studies is happy to reportthat the University Senate approved revisions to itsAcademic General Regulations to remove any ambiguityand/or repetition.INTRODUCTION OF A NEW PH.D. PROGRAMMEDURING THE 2011/2012 ACADEMIC YEARThe Institute of Post Graduate Studies began to offera Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in AgriculturalEducation beginning August 2011.
