The official opening of the SGL Gateway at the Institute of Distance EducationThe programmes with the largest enrolments at IDE are:The Bachelor of Humanities with 557 students, the Diplomain Commerce with 487 students and the Diploma in Lawwith 278 students. The Certificate in French programmehas been discontinued because of the continuous smallenrolments in this certificate. It is also noted that most ofthe students at IDE (1081 of them or 58.4%) are females.Research completedThree research projects were completed during the yearunder review. The first was in the area of History and thesecond and third were in distance education all in linewith the Institute’s themes as submitted to the UNISWAResearch Centre.Research in progressThe Five research studies that are in progress and are all intopics related to Open and Distance Learning and are inline with the Institute’s research agenda as submitted to theResearch Centre.PUBLICATIONSPublications in National JournalsTen papers were published by IDE staff in national andinternational referred journals.Published book reviews:Staff in IDE published seven book reviews during the yearunder review.WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARSNational workshops and/or SeminarsStaff in IDE attended eight national workshops andseminars in which they presented papers. There are severalpapers that have been written and presented by IDE staffmembers at National and International Workshops andSeminars.
