Simelane - CaretakerUnder the stewardship of the Board of Trustees, Office ofthe Vice Chancellor, support of UNISWA management,internal stakeholders, the Foundation has securedapproximately E9 million in the 2011/20122 financial year.Operational Strategy RetreatThe commencement of the 2011/2012 financial year washighlighted by a one-day brainstorming session where theUNISWA Foundation staff deliberated and developed anew blue-print to guide operational undertakings. Sinceinception, the corporate ethos of the Foundation has beenfirmly grounded in the ability to not only adapt to changebut also to become industry leaders who are constantlyat the forefront of change. This paradigm of thinking hasrepeatedly produced sustained superior performance in thecore business of the Foundation resulting in the exceedingof fundraising targets year-on-year.Further giving added impetus to the foregoing is theconfluence of factors at play in the internal and externalenvironment. These have impelled the Foundation to reconfigureits mode of operation and fundraising strategyaccordingly. Indeed, the combined adversarial effect of thesefactors has been exemplified by a slump in global economicperformance and the cash flow crisis at Governmentlevel. Consequently, this has resulted in acute budgetaryconstraints to fund operational costs, and a steady declinein the flow of both corporate social investment (CSI) andinternational donor aid. The one-day retreat resulted in thedevelopment of the AID Resource Mobilization Strategyderived from the three main pillars of accountability,innovation and a donor-centred approach to fundraising.Launch of the NETCOMM Hub of Creativity at the KwaluseniLibraryThe AID Resource Mobilisation StrategyThe above-mentioned strategy replaced the ‘OperationalPlan for the Business Activities of UNISWA Foundation’developed in 2006. To re-define and articulate a neworganizational philosophy of the Foundation was deemedvital and prudent in cognizance of the evolution of the entityand changes that have occurred in the preceding years.Consequently, the main distinction of AID is that it places aREPORT OF THE VICE-CHANCELLOR 86
