Analysis of diversity and of the development perspectivefor Polish rural areas until <strong>2015</strong>(Summary)Social and economic transformations after 1990, which have taken place inPoland, induce reorganization of the spatial structure and regional connections.In terms of the spatial and regional policy, one of key issues with regard to ruralareas is the issue on how to support them - either to attempt to stop unfavourableprocesses in less developed areas and to stimulate the development of theseareas or to support these areas which have internal development capabilities andthus to increase their competitiveness.In official governmental <strong>do</strong>cuments on development directions for ruralareas, the attention is paid to the identification of optimum measures aimed atsustainability of rural areas and assurance of proper coordination andcomplementarity of instruments for the rural areas development as part of theCommon Agricultural Policy and cohesion policy. The above-mentioned goalsguided the team of scientists from the Institute of Geography and Spatial Organization,Polish Academy of Sciences implementing the expertise entitled Analysisof diversity and of the development perspective for Polish rural areas until <strong>2015</strong>according to the critérium of connections with the largest urban agglomerations andcities as well as of en<strong>do</strong>genous potential. It has been acknowledged that the studieson: functional connections between urban centres and their infrastructure, areasof high en<strong>do</strong>genous developmental potential and areas of competitive agricultureas well as regions characterized by social problems shall facilitate selectionof the best solutions with regard to the rural areas development.The goal of the study was an analysis and evaluation of spatial diversities inrural areas and their functional connections. Further parts of the expertiseinclude: typology of rural areas in terms of functional connections andurban-rural relations, analysis of rural areas in terms of competitive and commercialagriculture, identification of rural areas of significant en<strong>do</strong>genoushttp://rcin.org.pl
