118 Summaryments on a macroscale for improving the impact of large cities on rural areas, ofgreat importance is the construction of a new Cracow-Nowy Sącz line whichmay clearly improve accessibility of the Sądeckie region.In terms of the development of urban and rural functional connections, thecar and railway transport systems should not be perceived in the regional andspatial policy as alternative but as complementary. It must mean a priority forthe solutions such as park and ride not only in the intra-agglomeration systemsbut also in the zone of „satisfactory accessibility" (individual car transport incombination with fast long-distance railway lines).Year by year, the Internet becomes more and more important medium in theactivity of public and private institutions. The basic problem in rural areas isa limited possibility of broadband access to the Internet. Currently, the developmentof fast links should be an investment priority. We suggest conduction ofstudies on: Internet availability in rural areas, needs and postulates of rural areasinhabitants with regard to the use of the Internet and evaluation of officialwebsites of rural communes.The strategic areas of agricultural production include: the Wielkopolskaregion specialized in swine rearing and intensive production of industrial plants,the region of Lower Vistula specialized in intensive production of industrialplants and cereals, Grójec and Lowicz region specialized in production ofvegetables and fruit and Podlasie region characterized by intensive milk cattlerearing.The agricultural function in the areas of competitive and commercial agricultureshould be treated as a priority. Also, it is necessary to promote andstrengthen there the development of agricultural and food processing and othermeasures improving the condition of the agricultural economy.Potential areas of competitive and commercial agriculture need meetinga number of requirements. In most cases, the following are required: improvementin the agrarian structure, investments in the agricultural infrastructure andenvironment, improvement in the demographic structure and educational levelof farmers. These changes require the long term perspective.The potential areas of competitive agriculture may also include the Warmiaand Mazury and Pomorze regions with favourable conditions for large-herd animalrearing and the Karpaty region with a possibility of the development ofrearing sheep and milk cows for meat as well as regions of the bioenergy development(mainly in the north of the country). Such directions contribute topreservation of landscape attractiveness of rural areas.In the regions where the agricultural development level is lower, importanceof production of energy crops as well as importance of organic and agrotouristfarms should increase.
