by GEP (Figure 1A). 9,10 In the initial GEP studies<br />

of DLBCL, arrays were performed on follicular lymphoma,<br />

CLL, lymphoma and leukemia cell lines, and<br />

normal lymphocyte subpopulat<strong>io</strong>ns obtained under a<br />

variety of activat<strong>io</strong>n condit<strong>io</strong>ns to provide a comparative<br />

basis for analysis of DLBCL gene express<strong>io</strong>n. 11<br />

Genes associated with cellular proliferat<strong>io</strong>n showed a<br />

of genes that discriminate between the GCB and ABC subtypes of DLBCL. Genes associated with the microenvironment,<br />

which have prognostic significance, are clustered into stromal 1 and 2 signatures. The stromal-1 signature genes<br />

are associated with extracellular matrix deposit<strong>io</strong>n and hist<strong>io</strong>cytic infiltrat<strong>io</strong>n and the stromal-2 signature genes are associated<br />

with increased tumor b<strong>lo</strong>od vessel density. B. Kaplan-Meier estimates of progress<strong>io</strong>n free and overall survival are<br />

shown according to GCB or ABC DLBCL subtype in patients treated with R-CHOP based therapy. Median fol<strong>lo</strong>w-up is<br />

approximately 2 years.<br />
