Wer plant, abends lange auszugehen,
der sollte sich vorher mithilfe eines
ausgiebigen Abendessens eine entsprechende
Grundlage schaffen. Leckere,
einheimische Gerichte zu angemessenen
Preisen gibt es in allen Niederlassungen
der Restaurantkette Lokál.
Ich bevorzuge jedoch das Lokál U Bílé
kuželky, das sich am Westufer der
Moldau im Viertel Mala Strana befindet.
Es ist nicht von Touristen überlaufen
und bietet tadellosen Service. Darüber
hinaus ist das Pilsner Urquell hier ganz
besonders gut, weil es aus einem großen
Behälter kommt und nicht aus Flaschen
oder kleinen Fässern. Den Unterschied
schmeckt man tatsächlich.
7pm Lokál U Bílé kuželky
Before a long night out, it’s a good idea
to dig into a substantial meal at a
reasonable price. Any eatery that's
part of the Lokál restaurant chain is
a good bet, but I prefer Lokál U Bílé
kuželky in the Mala Strana district,
west of the Vltava river. It is not overrun
by tourists, boasts sharp service and
offers one of the best varieties of Pilsner
Urquell beer from a large “tank”, as
opposed to beer from small barrels
or bottles. Trust me, you can taste
the difference.

Wenn ich im U Malého Glena arbeite,
stehe ich am liebsten hinter der Kellerbar.
Hier gibt es erstklassige Jazzmusik.
Die Kunden staunen regelmäßig
darüber wie gut die Musik hier ist –
ich sage immer, es liegt daran, dass bei
uns Puristenjazz gespielt wird, und
kein Touristenjazz. Sogar internationale
Stars gastieren regelmäßig hier.
Der Club befindet sich in Mala Strana,
und ist damit gerade weit genug von
den klassischen Touristenvierteln
U MALÉHO GLENA
entfernt, um die perfekte Mischung
aus Einheimischen, Jazzliebhabern
und experimentierfreudigen Touristen
anzulocken. Der Keller ist ein
gutes Stück kleiner als die meisten
anderen Jazzclubs in Prag, was für
eine besonders intime Atmosphäre
sorgt. Man kann die Musiker fast berühren
und ihre Emotionen während
des Musizierens genau beobachten.

I love working in the basement bar at U
Malého Glena because of the quality of
the jazz and the unique mix of clientele.
I always tell our amazed customers it’s
“purist jazz” and not “tourist jazz”. We
even attract super international stars
here and our location in the Mala Strana
is just far enough away from the tourist
areas to attract the perfect mix of locals,
jazz lovers and adventurous visitors.
The basement is much smaller than the
rest of the jazz clubs in Prague, which
adds to the intimacy and atmosphere
because you can almost touch the
musicians and watch their emotions.
