In Lagos, the high prevalence of ritual kill<strong>in</strong>gs can be attributed to the fact that<br />

the state is the commercial nerve centre of the country, a situation which exacerbates<br />

the belief <strong>in</strong> money rituals. The reported case of a multi-millionaire Pentecostal<br />

pastor <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> a case of ritual kill<strong>in</strong>g supports this argument. Accord<strong>in</strong>g<br />

to the press:<br />

The General Overseer of a fast-grow<strong>in</strong>g pentecostal church <strong>in</strong> Lagos has been arrested by<br />

the Police for alleged ritual murder. The pastor simply identified as Fireman has been deta<strong>in</strong>ed<br />

at the State Crim<strong>in</strong>al Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos follow<strong>in</strong>g<br />

alleged confessional statement of an 18-year-old boy, Ikechukwu, who was caught strangulat<strong>in</strong>g<br />

a 12-year-old girl identified as Bose.
