The geographical locations of the majority of these <strong>in</strong>cidents <strong>in</strong>clude Niger,<br />
Kaduna, Yobe, and Borno states, all of which are <strong>in</strong> the northern region of the<br />
country. Regard<strong>in</strong>g the first form of violent encounter, <strong>in</strong>stances <strong>in</strong>clude the<br />
bomb attacks on churches, notably Sa<strong>in</strong>t Theresa’s Catholic Church <strong>in</strong> Madalla,<br />
Niger State on 25 December 2011. Other events <strong>in</strong>clude the attack on Sa<strong>in</strong>t Rita’s<br />
Catholic Church, Kaduna State <strong>in</strong> October 2012, as well as numerous attacks<br />
on other church denom<strong>in</strong>ations <strong>in</strong> Borno State. Among several cases of assass<strong>in</strong>ations,<br />
three clerical leaders affected were Reverend David Usman of the<br />
Church of Christ <strong>in</strong> <strong>Nigeria</strong> (COCIN), Reverend Ilaisha Kabura of the same<br />
COCIN, and Reverend Bulus Marwa of Victory Baptist Church. Table 5.2 provides<br />
further <strong>in</strong>sight <strong>in</strong>to the trend of Islamist-motivated (mostly Boko Haram)<br />
attacks on Christian clerics between June 2006 and May 2014. F<strong>in</strong>ally, <strong>in</strong> regard<br />
to reprisal attacks by Christians, a typical case transpired <strong>in</strong> June 2012 <strong>in</strong> Kaduna<br />
State when scores of Muslims were killed by Christians follow<strong>in</strong>g suicide bomb<br />
attacks on churches a few days earlier <strong>in</strong> the state.<br />
