Airbus also launched in November and December the
C295W Latin American Tour through various countries.
An Airbus C295W aircraft belonging to the Mexican
Navy (SEMAR) and operated by a mixed crew from Airbus
DS and SEMAR has visited Bolivia, Chile, Argentina,
Paraguay, Panama and Mexico, covering about 46,000
km over 100 flight hours.
During its demonstrations flights, the aircraft was exposed
to the most extreme weather conditions and terrain.
For example, from hot and high conditions in El Alto International
Airport of La Paz (Bolivia), more than 4,000m
functionality to adapt it to market requirements, but without
manufacturing tailored aircraft for customers. The
goal is extend the lifecycle of the aircraft with more intelligence
skills, surveillance, early warning, addition of
weapons, etc. in order to make it more attractive and
improve its sales, stated Fernando Alonso, Head of Airbus
Defence & Space Military Aircraft.
The European manufacturer will analyze the market
prospects and its future needs for the coming 10-15
years. The forecast is that this diagnosis will be finished
in mid-2016.
C295 Capabilities
> Able to carry 71 paratroopers,
five large pallets or ten small
> Maximum cruise speed of 260
kt /480 km/h
> Maximum Take-Off Weight:
23.2 tonnes
above sea level, to extreme cold in southern Argentina.
In addition, the aircraft made the first flight ever by
a C295 to Antarctica, thus demonstrating its excellent
performance.
Currently, over 150 Airbus DS military transport aircraft
have been sold to Armed Forces of 13 Latin American
countries. Mexico, with 24 aircraft, is the largest
operator of Airbus DS in the region, followed by Colombia
(18 aircraft), Brazil (12) and Chile (12).
C-295W firefighter aircraft
The company’s strategy for the coming years will focus
on offering new versions of the C295 including more
The assembly of the tanks will take
place on Airbus DS San Pablo site in
Seville, where the final assembly of the
C295 is performed
It highlights the new firefighter version of the Airbus
C-295W transport aircraft. Airbus DS and the Coulson
Group of Canada have signed a Memorandum of Understanding
covering the industrialization, supply and
support of the new C-295W firefighter aircraft. Through
this agreement, the Coulson Group will develop and
manufacture a version of its Retardant Dropping System
(RDS) to be installed in the C-295W.
This system will consist of two internal tanks of 3.500
liters each, which after the fire season can be easily removed.
So then the C295W will be available for its conventional
role as a ramp-equipped, multi-role transport
able to carry cargo, troops, paratroops or stretchers. The
assembly of the tanks will take place on Airbus DS San
Pablo site in Seville, where the final assembly of the
C295 is performed. The water discharge system will be
similar to the one assembled by the Coulson Group on
the C-130 aircraft and is already operating with various
firefighting agencies.
