A Paradise Called Home

when the tide is low because
you can see so many
different types of fish,
baby sharks and turtles.
Its such a great thing to
do with friends when they
come to visit. There is also
another area called Chalk
Sound. It’s a natural lagoon
that is algae free so
the water is perfect, you
will see it when you arrive
on the plane as its next to
the airport. No watercraft
is allowed in here so its
fun to take some drinks
and explore.
The Turks and Caicos islands
are made up of forty
different islands of which
only eight are inhabited.
This makes for many unexplored
shallow bays to kite
in if you go out on a hovercraft.
Recently TCI has a
new business called Hover
TCI. I was lucky enough to
go out with John, the pilot,
for a test drive through the
mangroves and see which
areas we could get to for
kiteboarding. Since most
of the islands are surrounded
by such shallow
water boats are unable to
navigate around them so
the hovercraft is an exciting
tool to open up new areas.
We are still working
on finding these bays and
i’m excited to go out again
with him.
The one thing i’ve learnt
about the wind here in TCI
is how unpredictable it is.
The wind circles the island
like in Mauritius. When its
coming from the NNE - SE
we can kite in Long Bay
which is were the schools
are. When its NW or N we
can go to the reef and play
