but also in the decor of the place. The waitresses
walk around with beautiful pink plumes of
feathers on their heads, the waiters in traditional
dress. There is one waitress painting elegant
white dots and flowers on a young girl’s face, her
little brother patiently waiting his turn. From our
table we can see a huge lawn, full of people and
children getting the best spots to sit before the
event begins. Then we can see the beach, some
kiters enjoying the last time they can kite before
the heats start again.
The music is getting the crowd more excited, the
announcer asking the remaining kiters to please
leave the water. We pay our bill, waddling out of
the restaurant with full bellies. The crowd seems
to have grown again, as we politely battle our way
down to the sand. We are meeting the rest of our
team down on the beach, catching up with other
friends from around Cape Town. We meet up with
Colin, Lyde, Alex and it really seems like everyone
in the kite world is on the sand.
The conditions are really perfect, the flags go
up for the four riders who are battling it out in
this heat. Straight away the guys are smashing
it, mega loop after mega loop, getting huge air.
Every time the crowd roars with appreciation for
these athletes as they put on a great show. One
by one they get eliminated until there is only one
left who will go through to the next round.
