BW_How have you been preparing for the
2016 Wind Voyager Triple-S Invitational?
Sam Light: I had an operation
on my ankle just over two months
ago, so I have been doing
some intensive rehab to try and
get as fit as possible whilst taking
it easy on the ankle. I was
only able to start riding again
about one month ago but its
feeling good, the timing has
actually worked out as best as
it could. I have been in the UK riding
at the cable park and kiting
as much as possible alongside
some specific work on my ankle
with my Physio.
Colleen Carroll: Since last year’s
event I have tried to spend
as much time riding in the park,
with kite and cable, as possible.
Following the 2015 Triple-S
I flew straight to Hood River
where I rode the Slider Project
Park every day I could. Along
with Rich Sabo, Brandon Scheid
and Craig Cunningham we hosted
a small event [Hood River
Slider Jam] towards the end of
the summer. Later in the winter
I travelled to the Philippines
where we made a quick warm
up stop at CWC cable park and
then on to Blue Palawan for the
new slider event there. Since
Blue Palawan, I wasn’t able to
ride features until just this last
month when I was lucky to participate
in a Mercedes Benz promotional
campaign in Germany.
Being a part of this campaign
meant I had the freedom and
vehicle to go anywhere in and
around Germany that I wanted
to. So Craig Cunningham
and myself visited seven different
cable parks in Germany
and Belgium over the last few
weeks, always keeping in mind
that next trick to put down on
the kite!
Brandon Scheid: The Triple-S
always creeps up on us and
we always feel like we are
scrambling to prepare for the
event. We start by getting the
park in Hood River in the water
in April and try to start logging
sessions as soon as we can. The
next big thing is spending a bit
of time at a cable park to knock
off winter’s rust. Riding the
cable always helps get you physically
and mentally in shape for
the event. This year we spent a
week at Terminus Wake Park [in
Georgia, USA] riding every day
and trying to get some consistency
in our riding. Finally, we
get to Cape Hatteras a few weeks
early to try and get some
sessions in before the event
starts. In the end, we never really
feel truly prepared, so this is
the best we can do.
