it is love at first sight.
She has so many ideas, inspired by the natural
beauty she is bursting with creativity. It’s any
photographer’s dream here, perfect light, perfect
waves, perfect scenery. The challenge for her
is to organise the four of us cheeky riders who
just really want to hit the water. Roberto, Abel,
Alex and I were flying around, jumping and riding
waves. We were too busy having fun, we didn’t
notice stressed Svetlana on the sand and behind
the trees still taking pictures! Fortunately for us
Svetlana always gets the best shots, somehow
shooting all of us when we are riding our best.
Soon after, we see some brightly coloured kites
being pumped up on the beach, more RRD team
riders! I recognise Tony, Danny, Lyde and Collin.
We all ride together, wave after wave, a big happy
family out on the water.
Werther Castelletti, the big brain for RRD when it
comes to kites and TT boards, arrived at CPT airport
from Italy. He is the incredibly talented man
behind the RRD designs for the last few years. After
he came to the company, our kite production
and popularity has grown incredibly fast, every
year. Abel and Werther are the main testers and
now it is time for the final tests before the new
line is to be produced. At RRD they test all the kite
sizes in every model. Werther, Abel and RRD always
test all sizes and models to make each kite
unique. This means that they make sure the really
good shape that works perfectly on 12 m, will
work just as well on the 4m. This is why they test
all the kites and spend a lot of time and money
and time on this. This is why we are in Cape Town,
to train and test the products in the harsh South
